The term `naissant' applies to a lion or any other animal rampant, depicted as coming out from an ordinary in the middle of the shield. It symbolizes birth/rebirth and hope.
Similarly to the line `wavy', the line `nebuly' is meant to represent clouds. In early heraldry a distinction between these two lines of partition was often not made.
When a particular charge is described as `nowed', its tail is depicted as a knot. This term also applies to serpents. It signifies sacrifice and vigilance.
